MBTA Green Line Extension

Location: Boston, Massachusetts

Owner: MBTA

Completed: Ongoing

Reliance’s involvement in this project started with the appointment of an Interim Project Management Team (IPMT) by the MBTA to bring the project costs under the allocated budget of $2.1 billion. We provided Value Management services to the IPMT team which reduced the estimated project costs by over $700 million and then assisted the MBTA in re-packaging the project as a Design-Build contract, project advertisement, contractor selection, and procurement. The project includes a 4.8-mile extension of the Green-Line light rail service along two branches, a new maintenance facility, seven new stations, and modifications to the existing infrastructure, utilities, and other facilities along the corridor. As part of our continued services, we are providing design review in bridge and geotechnical disciplines, project management assistance, project controls, cost estimating, and contractor change-order and claims review. GLX is a very large MBTA project that involves a number of different structures and facilities. Reliance participated in contributing to the project success since the IPMT days, through the final design, and now the construction phase of the project.
